"Would you eat them with a fox?"

Miles loves the fox book aka Green Eggs and Ham. He loves to snuggle into my lap with his stuffed friend Foxy Fox to listen to the many attempts of Sam to get his Friend to eat some tasty green eggs and ham. Luckily we have two copies so there is always one near when the need to read arises.

Miles Loves Football

Miles loves football. It's true. He loves watching football, talking about football and throwing his little mini football around the house. I guess this was bound to happen. He is a beefy little guy and most of the men in the family also love football.
We have season tickets for Cal Football  and because of his love we were excited to take Miles to a football game this season. Last weekend we finally had a chance make it to the Cal / UCLA game. We totally kicked their butts. GO BEARS!

We decided to make a day of it so we left early and had breakfast at our favorite cafe. Miles ate the heck out of a bran muffin and some vanilla milk.
Then we headed down to campus to find some hats for the boys and enjoy the pre game rally. A nice man gave Miles a bunch of blue and gold balloons. Miles loved them even though he is looking quite grumpy in this picture.
We found Oski in the book store and Miles claimed that he wanted to give him hug but once we got close Miles wanted nothing to do with him.

When we got into the stadium and Miles looked down at the field and was in awe. He just kept pointing and saying "football, football". All he wanted to do was get as close to the field as possible. If given the chance I am sure he would have been out on the field. During the game we took him down to the railing and him run back and forth and check out all the action.
Eventually Miles decided to give Oski a second chance and a high five.
He also made nice with the ladies.
The ladies love Miles.

A super speedy birthday recap

Dear Miles,
I had a wonderful celebrating your birthday with you and can not wait to do it again next year. There were lots of smiles
Yummy food and kisses
Improvised party hats, cake and fun times with people who love you oh so much
You are two now and that means words like "No" and "Mine" have magically appeared in your vocabulary. It also means you are growing so fast I feel like I will never be able to keep up.

Two!

Yesterday Miles wasn't on his best behavior and I was having a hard time getting him to listen to me. During one of the many epic battles of will I attempted counting to three hoping to scare him into submission. I said "One" and he turned around with a big smile on his face, two fingers in the air and said "two" and we both burst into a fit of laughter.

The little guy may be a monster but at least he's a cute monster.

In other news we got Miles and new Toy Story helmet and bell for his bike.

Sidewalk Chalk

Recently Miles has been loving coloring and drawing. Crayons, pens, pencils, chalk, if he can make a mark with he will. Hopefully that mark is made on paper but not always. Miles has really been enjoying doing some scribbled sketches on the front walkway.
Miles is turning 2 on Tuesday. He is such a big boy now! We are going to have a Buzz Lightyear party.
"To infinity and beyond!"

Capitola

Saturday night we got a call from my parents letting us know that would be in Capitola on Sunday if we wanted to come and meet them for an early dinner. So on Sunday after finishing up some massive yard work that had been screaming for our attention we loaded Miles into the car for our mini adventure down the coast. Luckily our departure time coincided with Miles's nap time. So, instead of spending the hour and half trip complaining about being trapped in a car as he normally would he got a nice little nap.
With met up with the parents outside a 76 station in Santa Cruz (There is a long annoying story that could explain that meeting place better but I will refrain) and followed them to their hotel in nearby Capitola.
After a diaper change we wandered down to litlle tourity bit of Capitola to find some much needed food and enjoy some play time at the beach.
This was Miles' second time at the beach and he loved it. He loves that water and the sand and the birds. He doesn't much like going in the water but he gets a kick out of running up to and then fleeing everytime the water gets even remotely close to him.
After the beach we all had a craving for some ice cream and waffle cones. The ice cream shop we found had the cutest little mini cones for kids. So, we got Miles his first ice cream cone with rasberry sorbet. He loved it and thought not having to beg for ice cream from mom and dad was super cool. I was expecting a mes of epic proportions but Miles is a suprisingly clean little boy and only had a couple dribbles.

He ate every bit of it cone and all and threw a massive fit. Ahh almost 2 year olds...

First Hair Cut

A couple weeks ago I finally gave in and decided it was time to take Miles for his first hair cut. I had been putting it off for a couple months. I just wasn't ready for him to part with his cut little blond baby curls and I knew once they were cut it would never be the same again.
We took Miles to Snippety Crickets which is the same place we took Zachary for his first hair cut. Its agreat little place on Solano Ave in Albany that caters specificly to children. They have toys and a sweet train set for the little ones to play with while they are unhappily forced to sit still for an un-naturally long time.

I of course was worried about how Miles would handle this experience. He is a kid that is always on the go and doesn't do well when being confined and and generally refuses to sit still for more than a minute. Of course when we get in there there is a kid getting his hair cut and absolutly freaking out. Surprisingly Miles was not scared. When a chair opened up I set him up there and he handled it like a trooper. He put up a little fuss about the smock (he doesn't like things around his neck) and of course he shyed away from the clippers. Amazingly though, there wasn't any crying or screaming. I was so proud!

And he is a handsome little devil with his slick new cut and looks so much like his big brother.

Zachary's first hair cut October 2004

He would get super mad when hair got on his hands
What a handsome little man.
Afterwards Miles had his first Zachary's Pizza. He wasn't too keen on the pizza but he loved the crunchy bread sticks.

Park day is always fun day

Thursday we took advantage of the warm wether and took Miles for some play time at the park. Everytime we go to the park I am further amazed by his physical abilites and how fearless he is. I on the other hand am not fearless. I spend a lot of time being stressed out by his fearlessness and afraid he is going to walk off some climbing structure.
Hopefully this darn rain will go away so we can enjoy some more fun at the park.

A little trip to Monterey

I have been itching to get away for a while now. Unfortunately I have a job that doesn’t allow me to really get away so Frank and I decided to kind of get away this weekend. Frank was on spring break last week so we took advantage of his Friday free from class and headed down the coast as soon as I was free from work. Our destination was Monterey one of my favorite places in California.
It was very brave of us but we took Miles with us for our little weekend get away. I thought it was time for him to go to the aquarium and I figured a weekend full of fun outings would do him good. But as I have said before Miles is a man that needs structure and a schedule. Keeping a schedule on the road is hard to do. Miles did pretty well during the day (Frank might argue with me about that) but the nights and morning are a whole other story. The first night when we laid him down Miles cried and fought off sleep for and our. The second night we decided to keep him out and get him good and tired. We put him down around 830 and he was asleep within seconds. But for some reason he decided to wake up early. When I say early I mean EARLY. Miles woke up at 3:30 AM. Frank thinks it was 4:30 and I would love to let him continue thinking that but I looked at the clock and it was 3:30. Needless to say, this was not a trip full of rest and relaxation. But it was a good weekend having fun as a family and despite my lack of sleep and the often cranky Miles I had a wonderful time.

We got into town Friday afternoon. After a not so tasty lunch we decided to rent a surrey. This is something I don’t think I have done since I was like 7 and it was still just as awesome as it was back then. Miles loved it too. It had a little bell for him to ring and would say “Weee!” as we peddled along the water front.
Saturday was the big aquarium day. We got up and out of the hotel early so we could beat the crowds and the monster Miles turns into when it is nap time. We did manage to beat the crowds but Miles was a troublsome fellow. He enjoyed the aquarium for about 30 minutes and then he was ready to do things his way. So we saw what he would allow and got the heck out of there.
We did get to see the seahorse exhibit and it was amazing. What strange little creatures seahorses are. Here are a couple of my favorites.
After the aquarium we dicide a nice scenic drive would be good for putting Miles to sleep so we took the 17 Mile Drive. It was beautilful but not so good at putting Miles to sleep. He didn't actually go to sleep until the very end of it. At the start for the drive there was a beautiful bit sandy beach where let Miles experience the ocean for the first time. He insistsed on calling it "Ba Ba" but he really enjoyed. He would run out to the water and run away as quick as he could when the water would come in.
We also descovered a awesome park that we took Miles to Saturday and Sunday. It is called Dennis the Menace Park and is full of uber fun stuff for kids to enjoy. Miles loved the slides the best and they had many varieties to offer. This slide scraed us a bit. It was super long and twisty and bumpy. This first time he went down by himself and it scared the crap outof both Frank and I. But he got down to the bottom in one piece laughing histerically and immeadiatly ran around to go again. Miles fears nothing I guess I have enough fear for the both of us and we went down together the rest of the time.
And when it is time to go Miles will let you know
